I often refer to them as “comma shoulders”.
Many people appear to have upright posture without an obvious forward lean, but when viewing some spines from the side, there is a noticeable roll forward of the top of the arm. This can lead to neck problems as the shoulders rolling forward will also roll the neck forward and then the head must adjust to bring the eyes level.
Chronic tightness of muscles in the front shoulder can press on nerves and cause numbness and tingling down the arm. and into the fingers. A simple fix would be to just roll the arms back, but alas! tight ness would prevail and they would not be able to hold the new posture.
Enter the rescue team of massage, stretching and strengthening!
Soft tissue manipulation of front line muscle and fascia lays way for stretching the culprits pulling the shoulder forward. Instructions for this technique would be performed at home and then strengthening would be the last action to sustain the corrected “comma”shoulder.
I have had many successful corrections of “comma” shoulders at The Ikier Wellness Center. I would be glad to help you take your posture to the next level.
A normal posture plays a major role in fall prevention.
