Pole trekking is a method of walking using poles for support during exercise. Benefits of pole trekking include an increase of walking speed, encouraging an upright posture, and strengthening your chest and arm muscles. It enables better breathing by decompressing the lungs and decompressing internal organs. It can be used for self-defense, too!
There are many advantages to pole trekking and can especially be useful to people recovering from injuries or dealing with conditions that affect balance and mobility. The poles can add a sense of confidence making each stride stronger reducing the risk of falling. As well as having stronger strides, we have longer strides which reduces impact on the knees. Pole trekking reduces stress on other joints, as trekking poles absorb a considerable amount of impact. The distribution of weight while using the poles reduces stress on the knees and hips making the walking more low impact. By providing an additional two points of contact with the ground, poles greatly enhance your balance and stability. This is particularly useful over uneven terrain. You burn more calories and boost your cardiovascular fitness.
